Action Against Hunger is a humanitarian & development organization at the forefront of the fight against hunger. Our goal is to eliminate undernutrition among 5 million people by 2025. Action Against Hunger aims to provide humanitarian relief in over 40 countries worldwide in the sectors of nutrition, health, water/sanitation, and food security. As the world’s hunger specialist, our primary goal is to create a better way to deal with hunger. Our teams have been on the front lines, treating and preventing malnutrition across 8 countries in the Horn & Eastern Africa Region covering Ethiopia, Haiti, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.
Summary of Position
The communication and advocacy officer will support the implementation of the country’s communication and advocacy strategy while aligning and strengthening internal communication and advocacy initiatives. The officer will support the development of communication and advocacy messages and products for social media, internal technical teams, partners, and stakeholders.
The purpose of this position is to provide communication and advocacy support for a variety of projects within the organization, as well as to drive advocacy engagements, positioning, and visibility. The communication and advocacy officer will help with projects in key policy and thematic areas as needed to make sure that communication and advocacy priorities are incorporated into ACF’s work and that they are heard loud and clear.
Develop and initiate communication and advocacy plans & activities while products such as success stories, case studies, position papers, statements, and key messages for internal and external use. The Communication and Advocacy Officer will also be engaged in the content collection from project sites, and undertake research and desk reviews of policies, plans, and initiatives to inform ACF’s strategy.

Essential job duties.
Write, edit, and distribute content like publications, case studies, success stories, press releases, website content, annual reports, and other materials that talk about Action Against Hunger activities, or services.
Identify communication and advocacy opportunities from ACF operation areas and document based on need. Ensure that all communications and advocacy materials align with the organization’s brand standards.
Work closely with the Advocacy and Communications Coordinator to stimulate dialogue, influence policies, and promote social protection and nutrition financing.
Coordinate with service providers (e.g., printing houses, designers, photographers, writers, editors, advertising, marketing, and event coordination agencies).
Collaborate with the Advocacy and Communications Unit to organize campaigns, events, and messaging for key moments, global days, and strategic engagements.
Provide a translation of concepts and issues into a form that can be readily used by the media and understood by the public.
Maintain a photo database that contains images expressive of the issues, actions, and results of the Action Against Hunger working.
Support the technical development and monitoring of advocacy action plans for projects. Perform other communication and advocacy tasks assigned by the Line Manager.
Working Conditions, Travel and Environment.
The duties of the job require regular job attendance at least five days per week. Must be available to work outside normal office hours or on the weekends as required.
Must be able to travel as required for standard domestic and international business purposes. While performing the duties of this job in the field, the employee may be exposed to precarious settings under high security risks and/or very basic living conditions and outside weather conditions, as well as to infectious diseases.
Skills and Qualifications
Required Qualifications and Professional Experience.
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a Communication-related Course (e.g. in PR, external communication, Journalism) or other Social Sciences related discipline.
Minimum 4 years of work experience in a Communications or Knowledge Management role or a role that involves Advocacy for an NGO.
Experience in program or project design is an asset.
Required Skills & Competencies
Excellent in research skills and desk review of advocacy policies and strategies.
Good writing and communication skills
Strong understanding of current lobbying and policy development landscape.
Experience in successful communication and advocacy work, preferably in international development
Recognized capacity in translating complex information in a compelling and accessible way for non-technical audiences.
Experience in photography and video editing experience is an asset.
