Job description

Overview of position CTG is looking to contract an experienced Linguist for our operations with PAE in Somalia.
Role objectives Provide consecutive interpretation & translation support to the advisory team working with Somali Police Force (SPF), Counter Terrorism & Intelligence Division (CTID) & associated units.

Role includes assisting with advisory related activities.

Consecutive interpretation & translation support.



Project reporting This role reports to the line manager.
Key competencies  

  • High school graduate is required.
  • 4 years at college / university is desired.
  • Certification of interpretation skills is desired.
  • 5 years’ experience working as an Interpreter or Translator is required.
  • At least 5 years’ experience working with law enforcement agencies is desired.
  • Must have spent at least 5 of the past 10 years living in Somalia.
  • Fluency in English & Somali is required & fluency in Swahili is desired.
  • Fluency in & ability to translate between, English & Somali.
  • Must be a reliable person.
  • Ability to take direction.



Team management This role has no team management responsibility.
Further information
  • Must be willing to perform duties outdoors, for extended periods, for example at a shooting range.
  • Must be physically able to perform strenuous work (e.g. lifting & carrying boxes weighing up to 20kg, wearing protective equipment including body armor for extended periods etc
  • Typically, work hours are from 0900 – 1600, Saturday – Thursday, though occasionally, Linguists are contacted by SPF Unit Commanders & Mentors outside of these hours to facilitate translation for emergency response to incidents.
