Human Appeal Somalia Field office programme operations are based in Mogadishu, Gedo region and previously Bai region, with programmatic focus in the sectors of; WASH, Shelter, FSL, Education/Child Sponsorship, Protection, Health and Nutrition.
Position Summary
The nurse is responsible for assessing, admitting, treating and following up the individual children (both under and over 5years patients ) and women assisted in assigned OPD clinic(s) within Human Appeal program in Mogadishu and the communities that are served by those centers. The nurse will run and manage under five OPD center, including counselling, defaulter tracing, home visits, opt follow ups etc., and collect weekly and monthly reports and tally sheets. S/he will be responsible for keeping account of all the medicines and other supplies in the center and keeping up to date records, requesting more when needed, ahead of time. The under-five OPD Nurse is responsible for thoroughly and carefully assessing the children and mothers refer to IYCF counsellors or support groups when needed, and refer children to SC or hospital immediately when required. The UNDER 5YEARS Nurse will participate in any exercises organized together data at household, community/camp and district level, and work closely with others in the team at all times. This position will be based in the Mogadishu office and will visits in other programme locations if deemed necessarily
Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities
Support the management and running of UNDER 5YEARS as per agreed protocol
Become familiar with and adhere to all admission, home visit, referral and discharge
protocols for UNDER 5YEARS, ANC and PNC and other services offered at health facility Carefully and thoroughly assess each child and women at check-ups, and record all
information clearly and accurately on the UNDER 5YEARS/ANC/PNC cards.
Administer drugs to under and over 5yrs children and women in line with agreed
protocols, and keep records of all supplies used.
Immediately refer any complicated child/women who need hospitalization to hospital and fill out the referral forms correctly. Either accompany the child/women to hospital
personally, or ensure that another staff or CHWs/CHP member accompanies them.
Refer absent and defaulting children/women to the CHWs/CHPs for follow up (home visit) and record details of the home visit and outcomes on the UNDER 5YEARS,
ANC/PNC cards accordingly.
Support and guide the Community Health Promoters(s) in allocated centres with all outreach, follow-up, counselling and data collection responsibilities in collaborations
with Community Mobilization Officer.
Carry out UNDER 5YEARS, EPI and other training for CHWs, and participate in
recruitment of new CHWs/CHPs if/as necessary.
With support from the IYCF Officer(s), carry out IYCF counselling through one-to-one
and support group sessions, and support CHWs/CHPs to do the same.
Alert the UNDER 5YEARS supervisor to any increase in incidence of communicable diseases such as measles, polio, AWD/cholera or others either in the centre or in the
communities.
Participate in any campaigns such as de-worming, hygiene promotion, etc. as required. Produce and agree weekly, monthly and quarterly work plans with the UNDER 5YEARS
Supervisor and submit accordingly.
Work closely with the Community Mobilization Officer in the preparation of work plans
for the CHWs/CHPs
Participate in team meetings and other meetings/trainings as requested.
Carry out other activities as agreed with the UNDER 5YEARS Supervisor and PC. Assist as required within the OTP service and carry out all required duties there.
Skills and Qualifications
Key Competencies and Requirements
Qualified Bachelor degree Nurse
Additional training on treatment of severe acute malnutrition, health/hygiene
promotion, IYCF and/or communicable disease management is desirable. Training on EPHS guideline/protocols
At least 2 to 5years experience of health & nutrition-related humanitarian/development programme implementation
Experience of implementing emergency nutrition approaches including CMAM, and
familiarity with protocols
Knowledge of and/or interest in IYCF/behavior change/education interventions and
counselling
Experience of working in complex, insecure environments Fluent spoken and written Somali
High level of spoken and written English

Short deadlines for submission of Health report Management of work with support of Field Staff. Excellent cross-cultural awareness.
Experience working in security-sensitive environments and enforcement of team security protocols is an asset.
